Introducing: North City Almanac

Happy February!

Thanks to all of you, my birthday livestream on January 7th was a big success. Almost 300 people tuned in that night to watch video contributions from 20+ artists, and, together, we raised over $3,000 for the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition!

Afterward, I found myself thinking: How can I go back to my regular solo livestreams after that? So I started talking to my housemates about creating something new together. The resulting show premieres this coming Friday and it would mean so much if you tuned in. Introducing…

North City Almanac

North City Almanac is a livestreamed musical variety show hosted by yours truly, with help from the Housefolk, an intrepid team of creatives who happen to share my address. Together, we make music, words, films, comedy sketches, food, mocktails, and much more.

Each episode will feature a guest artist for an interview and a special performance. And at the end of every show we'll have an open jam, taking audience suggestions to create improvised songs and stories.

  1. February 5th - "Coming Home"

  2. February 19th - "The Stranger"

  3. March 5th - "Only Human"

  4. March 19th - "Kids' Show"

  5. April 22nd - “In the Garden”

  6. May 20th - “Dream Work”

If you have ideas for any of these shows or would like to submit something, please get in touch! I want this show to belong to all of us, and I'm always looking for more collaborators.

Last year, lots of musicians, myself included, were live-streaming to make ends meet. These broadcasts ran the gamut from iPhone video of a solo bedroom session to professionally produced, multi-cam extravaganzas on big stages. Though we're mostly past that initial phase, and the live-streaming has died down somewhat, I believe we've only seen the beginning of this format. As a rule, when technology that was once prohibitively expensive becomes cheap and widely available, innovation follows. We have the ability to produce a live TV show from our basement. Imagine the possibilities!

Let's create something together. What do you say? Will you tune in this Friday?

With love,
Jonas
